Carole Is DEAD?

If there were a classical music version of Name that Tune, my husband Chuck would be a top contender, being able to cite the composer, as well as the title of the composition. He doesn't do quite as well with popular music that has lyrics, or the artists who sing them, for that matter.

Last spring, we were discussing music during breakfast one morning. I enjoy a wide variety of artists, including country and pop vocalists. I had suggested he give a listen to Ebba Forsberg from Sweden. Our conversation deteriorated rapidly when I told him Ebba reminded me of Carole King.

For your listening pleasure, in case you haven't had the good
fortune of hearing the mellow voice of Ebba Forsberg.

Chuck: She reminds you of Carole King? Why because she is old and dead?

Me: Carole King DIED?

Chuck: Didn't she sing "Hello, Dolly?"

Me: You mean Carol CHANNING?

Chuck: Oh. Yeah. Her.

Me: So Carole King is still alive, right?

Whew. That was a close one. I was so sad there for a moment.

I'm happy to report that Carole King is still alive and well. So is Ebba Forsberg. We extend our condolences to the fans of Carol Channing, who may still be grieving.

  1. I've been listening to Carole King lately, mostly because her autobiography is fascinating. What a life she's (still) living! Thank you for introducing me to this artist as well. I'm glad to have someone new to explore.

  2. Now I'm intrigued. What would Carole King do with "Hello Dolly"? She'd find a way to deepen that song in unexpected ways...

    1. Oh, Ms. King would do amazing things with Hello, Dolly. I am not sure I would have wanted to hear what Ms. Channing would have done with So Far Away.

  3. Well, she reminds you of Carole King because that song starts with the same chord progression and melodic line as "It's Too Late."

Thank goodness Carole King is still alive. Have you seen Beautiful? I'm seeing it next year and can't wait.

    1. Listen to some more of Ebba, if you are so inclined. There is more to it than the similar tune; her voice quality brings Carole to mind.

  4. LOL. Chuck should take you to see "Beautiful" the Carole King story. Such a wonderful musical and it would really know afterwards that she was no Carol Channing. Your man is too funny. Such a sweet laugh this.

  5. I'm laughing too hard over the confusion of the Carol(e)s! And I wish I couldn't hear Channing in my head now. So funny.

    1. Yeah, Carol Channing's Dolly kept marching through my brain, and I wanted it just to stop. There just aren't any similarities between the Carol(e)s once we move past the pronunciation of their names.
